Banana? Oreos? Oh My!

This definitely was fun. I really love making cream pies. Yes, they are sooo traditional, but the flavors can explode. My fave was making the Banana Cream Pie. It had a flavorful impact that would really make you go.... Bananas! And liquerr always did the trick :)

Graham Cracker Crust
  •  1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 6 tbsp butter (melted)
Combine ingredients and  mold into sprayed tart pans.

Caramel Banana Cream Pie
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks (beaten)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/4 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tbsp banana liqueur
  • 4 bananas (sliced)
  • 1 banana (diced) for garnish
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • cramael sauce for garnish
  • whipped cream with sugar
Lightly toss the sliced bananas and diced banana with the caramel sauce (keep the sliced and diced banana in separate bowls).  In the tart pan, layer half of the sliced bananas into the tart pan.

Combine the sugar, cornstarch and milk in a medium pot and bring to a boil.  Pour hot milk mixture over egg yolks slowly and stir. Add the egg mixture back into the pot and place on a low-medium heat.  Using a whisk, stir til slightly thicken[between solid and liquid state] (Be aware of quick burning). And whisk in the butter, vanilla extract and banana liqueur.  pour half of mixture over bananas in the pie tart.  Layer the pie with the remaining sliced bananas.  Pour remaining custard.  Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.  Top off with whipped cream, diced banana and caramel sauce.
