Already thinking of Thanksgiving..

This was last years meal.  Let's see what do we have here...  potato salad, Djon Djon rice, honey bake ham, cornbread stuffing, macaroni gratin, roasted turkey leg and collard greens.  This is what happens when your family is a mixture of Haitian Americans and  Southern African American Culture!

He he! I see your point. I read that and exclaimed "Djon Djon rice???" as I had never heard of it before. So now I know it is rice with mushrooms! Thanks for that.

@Amateur Cook it's rice that is cooked in mushroom stock that we get from dried mushrooms. There actually are no mushrooms in the rice itself. Plus at the beginning process of cooking the rice, we saute white onions, green bell peppers, garlic with little dried shrimp for extra flavor. And then we put green peas and saute all together with salt and pepper. Then we add the mushroom stock with the rice. The mushroom stock give the rice it's dark nutty color :)
